MIIT starting to enforce the Regulations on the Administration of Internet Domain Names in China
On September 1, 2017 the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued regulations on the administration of domain names in China. Under these regulations Chinese Registrars are prohibited from registering/renewing domain names in any TLD that has not been specifically licensed by the MIIT, even if they hold Registry accreditation for the TLD. Previously this regulation has not been strictly enforced however the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have now advised Chinese Registrars that all domains which are not on the MIIT approved list have to be transferred to an international registrar.
CSC is regularly engaging with our Chinese registrar partner to gather information and communicate changes to impacted customers. Our systems are regularly updated with TLDs that have been licensed by the MIIT and you can contact your Client Service Partner for further information. If you have domains with a local Chinese registrar that will require an update please let us and our team will be able to assist with the transfer in.
UNR/UniRegistry Reinstating UNIEPS Blocks
As a result of a recent sale of their TLDs, Uni Naming and Registry (or Uniregistry or UNR) has announced they are now again accepting new registrations and renewals of UNIEPS Blocks as of June 1, 2021 with some changes. Existing UNIEPS Blocks will continue to cover the 23 TLDs for blocking through their current expiration dates: .click, .country, .gift, .help, .hiphop, .hiv, .juegos, .link, .sexy, .tattoo, .audio, .blackfriday, .christmas, .diet, .flowers, .game, .guitars, .hosting, .lol, .mom, .photo, .pics, .property. After the current expiration date and any newly registered blocks will cover only the following 10 TLDs that decided to participate in the block after being purchased by new owners: .click, .country, .gift, .help, .hiphop, .hiv, .juegos, .link, .sexy, .tattoo. Please reach out to your client service partner if you are interested in renewing or registering a new UNIEPS Block.
AdultBlock Qualification Update
The ICM Registry is expanding their eligibility for AdultBlock and AdultBlock+ services to include trademarks that are not in the Trademark Clearing House (TMCH) starting May 11th, 2021. Currently only those with trademarks registered in the TMCH and .XXX Sunrise-B Blocks are eligible to register AdultBlock services. Please reach out to your client service partner if you are interested in hearing more information on the AdultBlock services and eligibility expansion.
.BD Registry – Temporary suspension (Registration + Transfer)
The registry has implemented a temporary suspension to registration and transfer orders due to an ongoing legal matter within local Bangladesh court. This ongoing legal matter is a direct impact to the registry and they are diligently working to draft new regulations and procedures for registration orders. CSC will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation. Please note this temporary suspension is an impact to all registrars that support .BD domain names. At this time DNS delegation is intact and sites are remaining active. CSC can still modify WHOIS details + DNS details, as well as renew domains (potentially subject to change).
.AU License rules
The registry for .AU has announced recently that they have approved a new set of licensing rules. This policy change includes previous and new registrations of third-level .au names. CSC will be in touch with our customers shortly to provide more information. This will include any action items if any result from this policy change.
