The number of domain names<\/a> registered worldwide rose to more than 215 million during the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n

According to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief<\/em>, more than five million extra domain names were added to the global total between April and June.<\/p>\n

This represented a growth rate of 2.5% above the first quarter of the year.<\/p>\n

And registrations were found to have grown by more than 16.9 million, or 8.6%, since the second quarter of 2010.<\/p>\n

The .com and .net top-level domains (TLDs) experienced aggregate growth, passing a combined total of 110 million names in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

New .com and .net registrations totaled 8.1 million between April and June 2011.<\/p>\n

In terms of country codes, China’s top-level domain, .cn, moved up one slot to become the world’s eighth-largest TLD.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the .eu European Union domain<\/a> fell one place to become ninth largest Web address extension.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
