{"id":1399,"date":"2011-11-18T08:19:39","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T12:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=1399"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:06:48","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:06:48","slug":"adult-sites-sue-icann-over-xxx-domain-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/adult-sites-sue-icann-over-xxx-domain-names\/","title":{"rendered":"Adult sites sue ICANN over .xxx domain names"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A lawsuit has been filed against internet regulator Internet Corporation for  Assigned Names and Numbers (<a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">ICANN<\/a>)  and ICM Registry surrounding the way that .xxx <a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">domain  names<\/a> were allocated.<\/p>\n<p>Adult company Digital Playground Inc and  Manwin Licensing International SARL have bought a case alleging that the  regulators have broken competition law by failing to take bids on the operation  of the top-level domain case.<\/p>\n<p>In March, ICANN awarded the right to  create top-level domain names to ICM Registry LLC, which the plaintiffs claim  abused its position by requiring pornography companies to buy up those addresses  with close equivalents to their trademarks.<\/p>\n<p>The suit alleges that  monopolistic conduct, price gouging and unfair practices were used by the  companies.<\/p>\n<p>Stuart Lawley, chief executive of ICM, said, &#8220;We are certain  the claims are baseless and will vigorously defend this matter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier  this month, the ICANN began accepting applications for .xxx domain names from  schools working to ensure that their names are not associated with pornographic  websites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lawsuit has been filed against internet regulator Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and ICM Registry surrounding the way that .xxx domain names were allocated.
