The domain name<\/a> extension selected by a company or individual provides more information about their website, one expert has claimed.<\/p>\n

Patrick Aboagye, chief executive of Danipa Business Systems, explained that domain names suffixes can be categorized into Top Level Domain (TLD) and country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD).<\/p>\n

“Domain names ending with .com, .org, .net, .info, .biz, .name, .mobi, .asia , or .tel are examples of TLDs whereas domains ending with.us, .de, .fr, .uk, .in, .it, .es are examples of ccTLDs,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Aboagye noted that domain name registrants can select different TLDs or ccTLDs when buying your domain<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Most organizations buy their domain in different TLDs and ccTLDs to protect their brand identity or to identify with countries that they operate in,” he noted.<\/p>\n

The sector they are operating in \u2013 public or private \u2013 is also likely to influence their choice of TLD, with .gov common among government-funded websites.<\/p>\n
