Some 29 fellows have been selected from 24 countries for the upcoming Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN<\/a>) meeting in Canada.<\/p>\n

ICANN members and stakeholders will convene in Toronto between October 14th and 19th for the organization’s 44th public meeting, and through the Fellowship Program, a number of individuals from underprivileged nations will be in attendance.<\/p>\n

Now in its fifth year, the purpose of the program is to increase participation in the ICANN community, particularly in nations with low internet penetration levels.<\/p>\n

Applications for each meeting are assessed by an independent selection committee, and must meet minimum program requirements.<\/p>\n

Some 116 applications were received for the autumn 2012 meetings, where key issues relating to the global operation of the internet will be discussed.<\/p>\n

The Fellowship Program arranges airfare and hotel, as well as provides a stipend, following successful completion of the fellowship program, to assist with some meeting costs incurred<\/p>\n

Recipients will be expected to actively participate in and contribute to ICANN processes during and after the meeting.<\/p>\n

ICANN’s 43rd public meeting is scheduled to take place in Costa Rica between March 11th and 16th 2012.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
