Businesses and organizations which have applied for generic top level domain names<\/a> (gTLDs) will learn more about their chances of success on May 1st 2012.<\/p>\n

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN<\/a>) will post all gTLD character strings that have been applied for on this date.<\/p>\n

In addition, the body will reveal which parties have applied for which domain name suffix.<\/p>\n

The deadline for gTLD applications is April 12, 2012, after which ICANN will spend almost three weeks checking all entries for completeness.<\/p>\n

After ‘reveal day’, ICANN will commence the Application Comment Process, which will allow any stakeholder to express any points to be considered by the independent panels evaluating new gTLD applications.<\/p>\n

This comment period will close on June 30, 2012.<\/p>\n

“Anyone with grounds to do so may submit a formal objection to any of the new gTLD applications,” ICANN explained.<\/p>\n

“There’s approximately a seven-month window to file a formal objection to any of the applications received.”<\/p>\n
