The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN<\/a>) is seeking public comment on negative perceptions of the new generic top level domain name<\/a> (gTLD) regime.<\/p>\n

Last month, the organization opened a 90-day window for parties to submit applications for customized domain names.<\/p>\n

But according to ICANN, as the time of the gTLD window drew nearer, some parties stated their perception that they will need to submit “defensive” applications.<\/p>\n

A number of firms and organizations said they would be applying for a gTLD to protect their trademarks, the corporation noted.<\/p>\n

ICANN commented, “The new gTLD program features carefully crafted, new protections for trademark<\/a> owners and consumers.<\/p>\n

“When considering applications for new top level names, the process is designed to protect these important interests through independent objection and dispute resolution processes.”<\/p>\n

As such, ICANN is seeking to engage with stakeholders to allay any worries they may have about the new regime, particularly where intellectual property rights are concerned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
