A US court has given Gucci permission to sue an apparel retailer over the sale of counterfeit<\/a> products, it has been reported.<\/p>\n

According to Reuters, US District Judge Shira Scheindlin in Manhattan said the Italian luxury goods company is entitled to pursue claims of trademark<\/a> infringement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Guess Inc is accused of copying four Gucci designs, including green-red-green stripes, a script logo and a group of four interlocking ‘G’s.<\/p>\n

Judge Scheindlin said it was reasonable to assume that Guess acted in bad faith by developing designs that might cause confusion.<\/p>\n

She noted that Gucci had produced evidence that the Quattro G design did cause “actual confusion” among customers, the news provider reported.<\/p>\n

Robert Welsh, a lawyer for Guess, said the firm had not engaged in “willful deceit” over the designs in question.<\/p>\n
