{"id":1811,"date":"2012-02-23T09:19:12","date_gmt":"2012-02-23T13:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=1811"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:04:48","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:04:48","slug":"phishing-one-of-the-most-common-scams-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/phishing-one-of-the-most-common-scams-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Phishing &#8216;one of the most common scams in the US&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Identity theft and <a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/additional-domain-and-trademark-services.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/additional-domain-and-trademark-services.html\">phishing<\/a> are the most common scams faced by US citizens, it has been reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), consumers and businesses are  particularly at threat at this time of the year as tax returns are filed.<\/p>\n<p>IRS commissioner Doug Shulman said fraudsters will try to tempt people in  person, online and by email with misleading promises about lost refunds and free  money.<\/p>\n<p>He urged people to take extra caution to ensure they do not become sucked in,  as reported by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>The IRS explained that phishing is usually carried out through an unsolicited  email or a fake website to lure potential victims.<\/p>\n<p>Criminals attempt to coax people into providing their personal and financial  information, which can then be used to commit <a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/brand-monitoring.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/brand-monitoring.html\">fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Armed with this information, a criminal can commit identity theft or  financial theft,&#8221; the IRS stated.<\/p>\n<p>Other major scams common in the US include fraud by return preparers, scams  promising free money, false or inflated income and expenses, falsely claiming  zero wages and misuse of trusts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Identity theft and phishing are the most common scams faced by US citizens, it has been reported.
