{"id":1864,"date":"2012-03-15T14:38:45","date_gmt":"2012-03-15T18:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=1864"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:04:48","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:04:48","slug":"games-developers-resolve-trademark-dispute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/games-developers-resolve-trademark-dispute\/","title":{"rendered":"Games developers resolve trademark dispute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two games developers have settled a <a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\">trademark<\/a> dispute over the use of the term &#8216;scrolls&#8217;, it has been reported.<\/p>\n<p>Bethesda Softworks has been at loggerheads with Mojang chief executive and  Minecraft creator Markus &#8216;Notch&#8217; Persson for some months over the use of the  term.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Bethesda summoned Mojang to court after choosing the Scrolls name  for its next game &#8211; a video and card-collecting hybrid.<\/p>\n<p>The firm expressed concern that its rival may be close to infringing its  Elder Scrolls trademark, and contacted the lawyers for <a title=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/brand-monitoring.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/brand-monitoring.html\">brand  management<\/a> purposes.<\/p>\n<p>But a compromise agreement has been reached, which sees Mojang avoid paying  damages for their use of the &#8216;Scrolls&#8217; term.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The settlement is that we give them the trademark, get to keep the name, and  won&#8217;t make an Elder Scrolls competitor using the name,&#8221; Mr. Persson stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two games developers have settled a trademark dispute over the use of the term &#8216;scrolls&#8217;, it has been reported.
