The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN<\/a>) will publish its list of applications for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) on April 30th.<\/p>\n

The list will specify who has applied for which domain names<\/a>, the organization said.<\/p>\n

The gTLD application window opened on January 12th 2012, and is set to close to on April 12th.<\/p>\n

Currently domain name applicants are limited to just 22 gTLDs, such as .org., .com, .net and a set of country codes.<\/p>\n

But under the new system firms and organizations can apply for almost any domain name extension, such as .coke, .apple and .nike.<\/p>\n

Rod Beckstrom, president and chief executive officer of ICANN, said, “Our plan always has been to publish the list of applied-for strings approximately two weeks after the close of the April 12th application window.<\/p>\n

“Setting a target date gives people the opportunity to plan for this highly anticipated event,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Beckstrom added that if ICANN receives an overwhelming number of applications to the process, publication of the list of strings could be postponed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
