{"id":3507,"date":"2013-07-15T17:20:45","date_gmt":"2013-07-15T21:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.digitalbrandinsider.com\/?p=3507"},"modified":"2019-12-11T12:00:14","modified_gmt":"2019-12-11T17:00:14","slug":"update-from-durban-first-new-gtld-applicants-sign-registry-agreements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/update-from-durban-first-new-gtld-applicants-sign-registry-agreements\/","title":{"rendered":"Update from Durban: First New gTLD applicants sign registry agreements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During ceremonies earlier today marking the start of ICANN\u2019s 47<sup>th<\/sup> meeting in Durban, South Africa, the organization announced that the first New gTLD registry applicants have passed the initial program evaluation and signed their respective registry agreements.<\/p>\n<p>Next, these successful applicants will conduct Pre-delegation Testing (estimated to take 1 to 3 weeks), after which they can begin preparing for launch by posting a 30-day advance notice of the Sunrise period, a requirement for all program applicants.<\/p>\n<p>The first New gTLDs are slated to go live this fall.<\/p>\n<p>The strings and signees announced today were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ARI CEO Adrian Kinderis signed on behalf of .\u0634\u0628\u0643\u0629, Arabic for \u201c.web,\u201d which transliterates as \u201c.shabaka\u201d. The applicant is the International Domain Registry. The string is #3 in ICANN\u2019s Priority Draw Order.&nbsp;There are no objections to this New gTLD and it is not in the contention set with the ASCII versions of .web.<\/li>\n<li>Donuts CEO Paul Stahura signed for .\u6e38\u620f, the Chinese-language \u201c.games\u201d, which had prioritization #40.&nbsp;There are no objections to this New gTLD and it is not in the contention set with the ASCII versions of .games.<\/li>\n<li>Iliya Bazlyankov, chair of CORE\u2019s executive committee, also signed a registry agreement. CORE has applied for three internationalized domain name New gTLDs with high priority numbers.&nbsp;The two agreements&nbsp;signed were for .\u043e\u043d\u043b\u0430\u0439\u043d, Russian for \u201conline\u201d (prioritization #6) as well as .\u0441\u0430\u0439\u0442, which is Russian for \u201cgame\u201d (prioritization #9).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With Sunrise periods right around the corner, it is critical for brand owners to have a strategy in place for the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH), as this is just the \u201ctip of the iceberg\u201d as far as progress with the program goes.
