The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board New generic top-level domain (gTLD) Program Committee (NGPC) has made some key decisions regarding several of the upcoming domains.<\/p>\n
It met on September 28th 2013 and adopted a scorecard covering the remaining advice from the Beijing and Durban Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) communiqu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n
The NGPC received a letter from Heather Dryden to Steve Crocker regarding the .wine and .vin domains, which noted that there is currently no GAC consensus advice on additional safeguards.<\/p>\n
As a result, the NGPC is looking to hear from the organization’s members to find out the nature of the differences in opinions in the advice while it is also analyzing the community input received.<\/p>\n
All of the findings from the community input received on this issue will be collated and staff will prepare an analysis and recommendation for a decision at the meeting in Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n
ICANN has said the new gTLD evaluation and objection processes are still on track while the NGPC continues with its deliberations. The body is currently prioritizing its work accordingly so it can allow the largest number of applications to progress as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, ICANN will allow for an evaluation and dispute resolution process to go forward regarding the .spa and .yun domains, while the guangzhou (\u5e7f\u4e1c) and shenzhen<\/p>\n
(\u6df1\u5733)extensions are also being examined. It has stated it will not enter into registry agreements with applicants for these identified strings.<\/p>\n
The NGPC is compiling an implementation plan that takes into account the advice the GAC gave regarding the acronyms of intergovernmental bodies that may be affected, such as International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.<\/p>\n
ICANN said it will continue to provide further updates on the progress of the NGPC in its response to the GAC Beijing and Durban Advice.<\/p>\n
