margin: 5px;\" title=\"CSC Digital Brand Services\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cscdigitalbrand.services\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dbs_small3-300x56.jpg\" alt=\"CSC Digital Brand Services\" width=\"243\" height=\"45\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cscwebcontentstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/cscmarketing-cscdbs-media\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dbs_small3-300x56.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cscwebcontentstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/cscmarketing-cscdbs-media\/uploads\/2013\/10\/dbs_small3.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a>As the pace and progress of news continues to pick up on new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), Christine Willett, V.P. gTLD Operations&nbsp;at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) published a <a title=\"First New gTLDs Get the Green Light for Delegation\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.icann.org\/2013\/10\/first-new-gtlds-get-the-green-light-for-delegation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blog post<\/a> indicating that internationalized domain name extensions (IDNs) are now awaiting to go-live in the domain name space.<\/p>\n<p>The first new gTLDs are:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-3752\" style=\"border: 0px;\" title=\"green light\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cscdigitalbrand.services\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/green-light1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cscwebcontentstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/cscmarketing-cscdbs-media\/uploads\/2013\/10\/green-light1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cscwebcontentstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/cscmarketing-cscdbs-media\/uploads\/2013\/10\/green-light1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cscwebcontentstorage.blob.core.windows.net\/cscmarketing-cscdbs-media\/uploads\/2013\/10\/green-light1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u0634\u0628\u0643\u0629 (xn--ngbc5azd) \u2013 the Arabic word for \u201cWeb\u201d or \u201cNetwork\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u043e\u043d\u043b\u0430\u0439\u043d (xn--80asehdb) \u2013 Russian for \u201cOnline\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u0441\u0430\u0439\u0442 (xn--80aswg) \u2013 Russian for \u201cWeb site\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u6e38\u620f (xn--unup4y) \u2013 Chinese for \u201cGame\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once these IDN TLDs are delegated, which has taken two weeks in the past, the registries will then submit their TLD startup information to ICANN electing for what is most likely going to be what is referred to now as an end-date sunrise period.&nbsp; Instead of providing a 30-day sunrise notice to trademark owners, registries that opt for an end-date sunrise choose the shortest path to commencing sunrise by (a) removing the 30-day notice period (b) electing to run sunrise for a minimum of 60 days, and (c) agreeing to only allocate domains including contention sets at the end of the sunrise period.<\/p>\n<p>ICANN had originally expected to delegate the first new gTLD at the end of September, only to push the projected date back to an unannounced time.<\/p>\n<p>New gTLD registries appear to be impatient with the pace of developments coming out of ICANN and are beginning to share \u201cprojected launch dates\u201d with registrars, like <a title=\"CSC is an accredited domain name registrar and authorized TMCH  agent.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CSC<\/a>, to see if they can generate enough momentum to break the dam.&nbsp; As expected, yesterday\u2019s blog post confirmed that ICANN is committed to seeing through the launch of new gTLDs.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>With the date of the first new gTLD launch only weeks away, CSC strongly recommends that trademark owners:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>File their TMCH registrations immediately (NOTE: it will take at least 21 days for the TMCH validation process to be completed);<\/li>\n<li>Get up to speed on registry specific Rights Protection Mechanisms, such as the Donuts Domain Protected Marks List Program, to minimize defensive registrations;<\/li>\n<li>Determine brand-specific and premium generic second-level domain names to register across relevant new gTLDs &nbsp;(NOTE: it is likely we will see 20-30 launches per month so one by one strategic evaluation of each gTLD as they come up for launch will not be possible);&nbsp; and<\/li>\n<li>Identify monitoring solutions to police the rapidly evolving namespace for detrimental infringement to your brands and trademarks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>CSC will continue to monitor the new gTLD registries closely and make sure you get the facts on these launches (minus the hype and speculation) and will inform you once dates are firm via this blog and our soon-to-be-launched, client-only resource center, <em><a title=\"CSC's The Brand Cirlcle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thebrandcircle.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Brand Circle<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, CSC is ready and able to assist you with the above-listed important preparations.&nbsp;
