{"id":618,"date":"2011-02-02T13:58:47","date_gmt":"2011-02-02T17:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=618"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:11:54","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:11:54","slug":"department-of-homeland-security-seizes-sports-domain-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/department-of-homeland-security-seizes-sports-domain-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Homeland Security seizes sports domain name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stepped up its fight against cybersquatting and trademark infringement by blocking the domain name of a popular Spanish TV firm.<\/p>\n<p>According to the DHS, the move will stop Rojadirecta.org from broadcasting sporting events from around the world online.<\/p>\n<p>DHS&#8217;s Immigration and Customs Enforcement department went ahead with the seizure, in spite of a ruling in two separate Spanish courts that the Web site did not infringe any copyright or laws.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone visiting\u00a0 is redirected to a DHS holding page that warns users the site has been blocked, saying, &#8220;It is unlawful to reproduce or distribute copyrighted material, such as movies, music, software or games, without authorization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other Web addresses used by the peer-to-peer broadcaster &#8212; including rojadirecta.es and rojadirecta.me &#8212; are still in operation.<\/p>\n<p>However, rojadirecta.com has also been seized by the DHS.<\/p>\n<p>In related news, rap star 50 Cent recently hinted that he was behind the temporary seizure of WorldStarHipHop.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has stepped up its fight against cybersquatting and trademark infringement by blocking the domain name of a popular Spanish TV firm.
