The Dashboard domain name report, which is published twice a year, has shown that there has been a dramatic upswing in the number of Web users and organizations adopting the .org top level domain name.<\/p>\n

According to the new report, which was published this week, the number of .org registrants has risen by 10.3 percent in the past year.<\/p>\n

This growth represents a 1.4 percentage point increases on .org registration levels recorded in 2009.<\/p>\n

Since 2005, the number of .org domain names being used has risen from 3.9 million to 8.8 million.<\/p>\n

The report, produced by the Public Interest Registry (PIR), said, “We expect similar results in 2011, especially considering that .org registrants are quickly approaching the nine million milestone.<\/p>\n

“With this growth in mind, it’s all the more critical that security and stability of its infrastructure continue to be at the forefront of PIR’s core mission.”<\/p>\n

The organization is hoping to be the first to introduce Domain Name System Security Extensions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
