The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) plans to relocate its upcoming domain name conference away from Jordan, the country where it was first planned to take place.<\/p>\n
Scheduled for June 20 and running until June 24, the meeting was expected to be a forum for discussion of the proposed introduction of a plethora of new top level domain names.<\/p>\n
However, ICANN has decided to relocate to ensure that the maximum number of people possible can attend the event.<\/p>\n
ICANN said “rapidly changing developments” in the region — including the recent revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia — would make the event difficult to coordinate.<\/p>\n
Which is why ICANN is seeking another venue.<\/p>\n
“The decision reflects the board’s view that regional developments could have a negative impact on attendance at the meeting,” a spokesperson for the organization said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
