{"id":743,"date":"2011-03-21T14:58:53","date_gmt":"2011-03-21T18:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=743"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:10:28","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:10:28","slug":"paypal-falls-victim-to-new-phishing-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/paypal-falls-victim-to-new-phishing-attack\/","title":{"rendered":"Paypal falls victim to new phishing attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Online payment service Paypal has been the victim of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/additional-domain-and-trademark-services.html\">phishing<\/a> attack which manages to bypass security measures built into modern Web browsers.<\/p>\n<p>Users are now being warned to be cautious when responding to, or acting upon, emails that appear to be sent from the firm.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (UCERT), the attack is also being used to target Bank of America and Lloyds TSB customers.<\/p>\n<p>The unsolicited emails claim to be legitimate correspondence from Paypal but simply redirect to phishing websites.<\/p>\n<p>However, unlike other malicious spam messages, the scam emails store the content of a fake website locally &#8212; allowing cybercriminals to dodge traditional spam filters.<\/p>\n<p>If users offer up their information it is simply transferred from their email account directly to a PHP script on a dodgy website.<\/p>\n<p>The scam was discovered by M86 security labs.<\/p>\n<p>The organization said: &#8220;Users must avoid opening e-mail attachments arriving from unknown and suspicious sources.
