{"id":756,"date":"2011-03-28T13:40:23","date_gmt":"2011-03-28T17:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=756"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:10:28","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:10:28","slug":"cybersquatting-risk-increased-by-new-domain-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/cybersquatting-risk-increased-by-new-domain-names\/","title":{"rendered":"Cybersquatting risk increased by new domain names"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The introduction of new top level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">domain names<\/a> &#8212; including the recently approved .xxx Web suffix &#8212; could result in a sharp rise in the number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-recovery.html\">cybersquatting<\/a> cases.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fresh Business Thinking contributor and top level domain name expert Andreas Edler, while there will be far more Web addresses to choose from as a result of the introduction of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/newgtlds.html\">new top level domain<\/a> names, businesses may fall victim to cybersquatting if they don&#8217;t pre-emptively register new addresses that contain their company name.<\/p>\n<p>Failure to pick up lucrative domain names with the new top level endings could have a major, negative impact on companies&#8217; existing Web traffic, Mr. Edler noted.<\/p>\n<p>He added that many businesses are likely to adopt several different domain names as a means of protecting themselves against the potentially financially damaging practice of cybersquatting.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, domain name specialist Paul Rubens told esecurityplanet.com that businesses must never forget to renew their domain names.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The introduction of new top level domain names &#8212; including the recently approved .xxx Web suffix &#8212; could result in a sharp rise in the number of cybersquatting cases.
