{"id":781,"date":"2011-04-04T16:06:26","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T20:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=781"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:10:28","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:10:28","slug":"trademark-protection-applications-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/trademark-protection-applications-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Trademark protection applications rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\">trademark<\/a> protection applications filed through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) rose by 12.8 per cent last year.<\/p>\n<p>According to WIPO, the rise means that applications are now at the same level they were prior to the recent global economic downturn.<\/p>\n<p>WIPO&#8217;s director-general Francis Gurry said that the lull in 2009 was a direct result of the turmoil experienced in the world&#8217;s financial markets.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;International trademark activity has rebounded and has nearly recovered the ground lost in 2009,&#8221; Mr. Gurry said.<\/p>\n<p>WIPO noted that South Korea and China saw the biggest rise in trademark protection applications &#8212; rising by 42% each.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, 85 per cent of registrations were made by small and medium-sized enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Tobacco firm Philip Morris applied for the most trademark protections &#8212; submitting 137 applications in total.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, WIPO held a global online piracy conference in Paris to address the increasingly global issue of trademark protection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of trademark protection applications filed through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) rose by 12.8 per cent last year.
