{"id":789,"date":"2011-04-05T14:13:21","date_gmt":"2011-04-05T18:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=789"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:10:28","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:10:28","slug":"u-s-and-uk-move-forward-on-joint-intellectual-property-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/u-s-and-uk-move-forward-on-joint-intellectual-property-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. and UK move forward on joint intellectual property policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. and UK have made significant progress reconciling their separate intellectual property rights rules.<\/p>\n<p>Both countries have worked on an action plan which will follow up on research conducted and released by the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) in March of last year titled &#8220;Economic Study on Patent Backlogs and a System of Mutual Recognition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and UKIPO will now work more closely together and allow their officers to collaborate and re-use work done by their cross-Atlantic counterparts in order to streamline the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\">trademark<\/a> application process.<\/p>\n<p>USPTO director David Kappos said: &#8220;The joint action plan highlights that while 21st century patent challenges are global in scope, so too are their solutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Work sharing is a powerful tool that equips examiners to extract value from our skilled colleagues in other patent offices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kappos&#8217; UK counterpart Baroness Wilcox added that patent backlogs make it difficult for businesses to innovate and this agreement would go some way toward addressing the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Inc.com advised business owners in the U.S. to trademark their name as this could help them prevent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-recovery.html\">cybersquatting<\/a> in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. and UK have made significant progress reconciling their separate intellectual property rights rules.
