{"id":822,"date":"2011-04-18T15:08:13","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T19:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=822"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:10:11","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:10:11","slug":"xxx-web-addresses-go-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/xxx-web-addresses-go-live\/","title":{"rendered":".xxx Web addresses go live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first controversial .xxx Web addresses have gone live after years of negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>A suffix for pornography-only sites was first proposed 11 years ago, and the first sites using it went live around midnight on Friday, April 15.<\/p>\n<p>The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">ICANN<\/a>) and the U.S. Department of Commerce were both involved in the project, along with other parties. The International Foundation for Online Responsibility oversaw the application.<\/p>\n<p>At the moment the .xxx extension will only be available to premium sites in the adult entertainment industry, opening to the majority later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>It is hoped that by creating a virtual &#8220;red-light district,&#8221; the seedier parts of the Web will be placed in a set area which is easy to control and monitor.<\/p>\n<p>However, some countries do not agree. Last month, it was reported that India will block the .xxx top level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">domain name<\/a>, with government officials stating that they consider it immoral.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first controversial .xxx Web addresses have gone live after years of negotiation.
