{"id":905,"date":"2011-05-24T10:01:15","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T14:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=905"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:09:53","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:09:53","slug":"navy-attempts-to-trademark-seal-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/navy-attempts-to-trademark-seal-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy attempts to trademark Seal Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of the Navy is seeking to obtain the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\">trademark<\/a> to the term &#8216;Seal Team.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>A trademark application has been lodged to counter Disney&#8217;s ongoing attempts to secure the rights to &#8216;Seal Team 6.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Disney filed three applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on May 3, just two days after Navy Seals conducted a raid on Osama Bin Laden&#8217;s compound in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>The entertainment firm wants to use the trademark to support a range of products, including toys, games, clothes, entertainment and education services.<\/p>\n<p>However, Disney may not get its way.<\/p>\n<p>Recent attempts to trademark the elite fighting force&#8217;s name are believed to have highlighted the value of the trademark to the U.S. Navy, which is now seeking to secure legal rights to related terms.<\/p>\n<p>The service branch claims to have first used the mark on December 31, 1962, and derived a commercial benefit from the term on the same day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of the Navy is seeking to obtain the trademark to the term &#8216;Seal Team.&#8217;
