{"id":913,"date":"2011-05-26T16:04:28","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T20:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=913"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:09:40","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:09:40","slug":"wipo-orders-domain-name-transferred","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/wipo-orders-domain-name-transferred\/","title":{"rendered":"WIPO orders domain name transferred"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RepairClinic.com has emerged triumphant after taking a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-recovery.html\">cybersquatting<\/a> case to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).<\/p>\n<p>The firm made an application for ownership of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">domain name<\/a> &#8216;repairclinc.com&#8217;, which is very similar to its own flagship Web address minus the final &#8216;i&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>RepairClinic.com claimed that potential customers who mistakenly omitted this letter searching for &#8216;repairclinic.com&#8217; would be redirected to the website &#8212; noting that this was a clear case of typosquatting.<\/p>\n<p>WIPO agreed with the plaintiff, and ordered Spoofy, Inc. to transfer ownership of the domain name to RepairClinic.com.<\/p>\n<p>The organization agreed that registering a domain name so similar to the firm&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/trademark-searching.html\">trademark<\/a> was unethical, and that attempts to generate trade using the address had been made in bad faith.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We take great pride in our company name and what it stands for. It&#8217;s disheartening that a company would intentionally try to take advantage of our customers,&#8221; said Chris Hall, RepairClinic.com president. &#8220;That is why we will take immediate action against anyone who engages in these unethical practices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A recent WIPO report indicated that instances of typosquatting increased by 28 per cent during 2010.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RepairClinic.com has emerged triumphant after taking a cybersquatting case to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
