{"id":948,"date":"2011-06-13T15:41:04","date_gmt":"2011-06-13T19:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.domainandtrademark.com\/?p=948"},"modified":"2019-08-09T09:09:40","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T13:09:40","slug":"new-gtlds-could-end-registrant-frustration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cscdbs.com\/blog\/new-gtlds-could-end-registrant-frustration\/","title":{"rendered":"New gTLDs &#8216;could end registrant frustration&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New top-level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">domain names<\/a> are needed to end the frustration suffered by many Web address registrants in the current market, it has been suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Writing for the <em>Daily Telegraph<\/em>, digital media editor Emma Barnett noted that domain names have become an increasingly important issue in business over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that due to the supply of basic domain names running out, few companies have been able to register their URL of choice over the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has often already been taken by someone else \u2013 who they then have to pay exorbitant amounts of cash to in order to reclaim themselves online,&#8221; Ms. Barnett stated.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers&#8217; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cscglobal.com\/global\/web\/csc\/domain-name-management.html\">ICANN<\/a>) move to introduce new generic top-level domains \u2013 where brands can pay to use a term of their choice in the Web address suffix \u2013 could be &#8220;significant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It will mean firms have access to a much wider pool of domain names, giving them additional online brand-building opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>ICANN will decide whether to give final approvals to the new generic top-level domains at its Singapore meeting, which convenes later this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New top-level domain names are needed to end the frustration suffered by many Web address registrants in the current market, it has been suggested.
