Avoid cybersquatting by remembering to renew your domain name

Businesses should do everything they can to avoid falling victim to cybersquatting scams and, according to Internet security expert Paul Rubens, setting up a simple domain name renewal process is a step in the right direction for many.

Mr. Rubens claims that the easiest way to lose a domain name to a rival is by simply forgetting to renew it.

Writing for esecurityplanet.com, Mr Rubens said: “You can usually choose to renew domain names for one, two, five or ten years, but be careful about choosing anything longer than one year — renewing is something that is much more likely to slip your mind if you don’t have to do it regularly.”

Recently, the Internet Commerce Association claimed that registering a trademark can often prevent protracted domain name disputes.
