Chocolate.com put up for sale

The domain name Chocolate.com is up for sale.

It was purchased by the Internet Real Estate Group in 2004, but the company has now decided to cash in on its appeal.

The website is currently the largest online marketplace for fine chocolates and has 250 vendors and over 5,000 products listed on the site.

Andrew Miller, Chocolate.com’s managing director, said “It is the global equivalent of the best address on Madison Avenue, Rodeo Drive or Champs-Elysees.”

There is likely to be a lot of interest in the domain, as it represents a prime marketing opportunity for any firm in the confectionery business.

Frank Tillmanns, who is handling the sale, said the word chocolate is global as it is understood everywhere, which means interest is likely to be worldwide as well.

Indeed, Mr Tillmanns thinks this could be one of the last big pieces of virtual real estate to come onto the market.
