ICANN closes in on new top level domain name regime

Final approval for the new generic top level domain regime could be granted later this month.

According to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the issue is set to be debated at the nonprofit organization’s next public meeting.

ICANN delegates are set to convene in Singapore on Monday, June 20, when they could give the green light to the introduction of an extended range of domain name extensions.

Under the ICANN proposals, domain name registrants will be able to apply for their own customized TLD. (Examples include .sports, .berlin and .brand.)
