Pixel Capital spends $528K on two domain names

Australian company Pixel Capital has spent $528,000 acquiring two domain names.

The purchase of accommodation.com and accommodation.co.uk is in the top three highest global domain sales for 2012, according to DN Journal figures.

It is not the first time the firm has spent big on securing the right web address, as last year it parted with $138,000 for creditcard.net, which was the second biggest purchase of 2011.

Pixel Capital founder Roland B. Bleyer said he expects the accommodation.com portal to be launched later in 2012 with strong social media interaction.

“The site will have a sharing community focus. We are finalizing arrangements with four charities across the globe to which we will donate 10% of our profits,” he added.

Mr. Bleyer believes the growth in domain name value is now far eclipsing physical real estate.

Back in 2009, Pixel Capital spent AUS$160,000 ($168,000) on creditcard.com.au, which is still an Australian record.
